This trip
will be led by French paddler Nico Chassing and will be run as a kayak
clinic to help develop your creeking and playboating skills.
Each day's
paddling is captured on video and we analyse it each night after dinner
to give you pointers on how to improve your techniques.
Starting on
Saturday and finishing on the following Friday you only need to take
a week off work. This trip is limited to eight paddlers.


Day
1 |
(June 4) - Arrive in Lyon in the morning and depart for the Hautes-Alpes.
(4 hours drive). Set up of the camp at "Les Pins" in Châteauroux-les-Alpes. |
Day
2 |
(June
5) - Checking of equipment with modifications if necessary. Paddle
the Durance River from St Clement to Embrun (Grade II/III) to evaluate
the skills of each paddler. Freestyle session at "St Clement",
"Rabioux" and "la Clapière". Return to
camp for video session and BBQ. |
Day
3 |
(June
6) - Loading of the Creek boats for full day creeking on Guil River
(Grade IV/IV+). The section we paddle will depend on water levels
and skills of the group. Return to camp for video session and dinner.

Day
4 |
(June
7) - Morning freestyle session at the Rabioux wave or the spot of
"La Clapière". Afternoon Via Ferrata (Easy Climbing
in a fully equipped gorge with ladders, monkey bridges, etc, here
is a selection of images. Via1 - Via2 - Via3 - Via4) in l'Argentière.
Return to camp for video session and BBQ. |
Day
5 |
(June
8) - Full day creeking on the river Ubaye or Durance Gorge (Grade
IV/IV+). The section we paddle will depend on water levels and skills
of the group. Return to camp for video session and dinner. |
Day
6 |
(June
9) - Pack up camp and departure for Lyon. Afternoon session on the
famous Hawaii-sur-Rhône wave. Night in a campsite in Lyon
with video session and dinner. |
Day
7 |
(June
10) - Depart Lyon. |
What
is included?
- Food
- all meals from dinner on day 1 to breakfast on day 7.
- Guides
- Nico Chasing will be guiding this trip.
- Transfers
- All river shuttles and transport during the camp and airport transfers
within France are included.
- Kayak
- A creek boat will be supplied for the creeking days.
What
isn't included?
- Alcohol
- We will run a kitty system for those who wish.
- Flights
- These are not included and will be completely your own responsibility.
You need to arrive in Lyon before midday on June 4, 2005.
- Insurance
- You will need to have your own personal and health insurance.
What should I bring?
- Clothing
- All personal items for hot and cold weather plus toiletries.
- Kayaking
gear - You will be required
to provide your own kayaking gear including; freestyle boat in good
condition with air bags, paddle, kayaking apparel suitable for cold
conditions, throw bag, carabineer and knife. There is a small range
of boats available to hire. Please contact us for a list of these.
- Camping
gear - Tent, sleeping
bag and mattress
- Spending
money - For alcohol and souvenirs.
Kayak skills required
- The
minimum kayak level required is to be able to roll perfectly and be
comfortable in grade III whitewater.

- June
4 to June 10, 2005 inclusive.
