Challenges in White Water Rafting

White water rafting is a fun and exhilarating experience but it does pose some challenges that you should keep in mind.

This sport also requires knowledge of the area in which you plan to raft. Without knowing the terrain you risk running into surprises that you are not equipped to handle. For instance you will need to be able to know what the current could be doing on any given day and time. With out this knowledge you may find yourself in a current that is too swift for you to navigate, and as a result you could slam into an obstacle that is protruding from the water. You could even find yourself or one of your team members landing in the water when you least expect it.

You will need to have a basic knowledge of the river you plan to raft in as well. With out this knowledge you will not know where the dangers such as bends too sharp to navigate and drops to steep to chance, may lay. Not having this information could land your team in serious danger.

If you do find yourself in such a situation you also need to know just how to handle it. If you find that you have come to a sharp or fast flowing bend that you were not aware of, you and your team will face the challenge of making it through this bend while not losing anyone over the side as well as not capsizing or puncturing the raft.

The biggest and most important challenge to white water rafting in the UK is to ensure that you have an experienced rafter on your team. If you and your friends decide to take a rafting trip for a stag party and do not know much about the sport, then it is best to book with companies that will provide you with a guide. There are a few of these companies through out the UK. Each one has its own guidelines for what they prefer in regards to preparing for your rafting trip. They also usually offer for a guide as well as basic training in white water rafting. The guide is a valuable person who can help you overcome some of the challenges you will face on your trip. These guides travel these rivers many times a year and are aware of the dangers lurking just ahead and just below the surface of that turbulent white water. They will therefore be ready should the unexpected occur.

You also need to ensure that you have the physical strength to manage the trip. You will be required to help your team navigate the fast flowing waters. If you do not have the ability to do this you may place every member of your team and the guide helping you at risk.
