The Waiau River represents three water bodies in New Zealand. The largest of these is located in the southern-most zone of Southland. The waterway is an outpouring from Lake Te Anae, traveling into the Lake Manapouri, which is located 10 km towards the south. From here-on, the river again completes a journey of around 70 km, arriving at the Foveaux Strait, which stands almost 8 km towards the south of Tuatapere.
