White Water Rafting Rivers of the World - France

The Ubaye River, France

The Ubaye River in France originates from the Longet Lake located in the Franco-Italian border of the huge Mount Viso. The river flows from the east to the west and then flows into the Serre-Poncon Lake. In fact, the river lends its name to the Ubaye valley and is recognized as one of the most prominent rivers of France.

The Ubaye River is quite well-known for offering the best rafting activities and other whitewater sports. The river is quite reputed and is one of the most stunning rivers in Europe. Flowing through the High Alps and Maritime Alps, the river travels about fifty kilometers, offering some of the massive rapids throughout its course. Along its entire course, the river passes through the Italian border towards the Lake Serre-Poncon.

Originating from the glaciers, the river is without any dam. However, it continues to be in full strength all through the year. Nevertheless, the volume of the water is rather high during spring-time and is measured to be as much as 150m3. Sporting rapids of classes I to IV, the river stands to be extremely fascinating as well as highly challenging. Even though the volume of water rises to great levels during spring, the river seems to be more playful during this particular season. Once on a rafting expedition on Ubaye River, a rafter is sure to enjoy his trip as he cuts through the voluminous waves. As the water drenches you and your kayak misses the boulder by inches, you can definitely feel the adrenalin rush.

Apart from the exciting rafting experience, you can even take pleasure by camping on the riverside. The stunning scenic beauty found along the course of the Ubaye River is another appealing part of your entire trip.
