The Minho River, a famous river of Galicia, Spain, is also the longest river of this region. Originating from its source in Sierra de Meira, the river travels a long way before finally mingling into the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Measuring up to 340 km, the Minho River shares its border with Portugal.
The river, after rising from its source, travels south of the old Roman city of Lugo and passes across several canyons and valleys throughout its course. Offering excellent rafting opportunities to all rafters, the Minho River has created quite a buzz as a popular rafting destination! Towards the north of Ourense, as the valley widens and the riverbed extends as well, the rafters get to encounter amazing whitewaters to lay their rafts on. Recognized as quite an interesting river, the Minho River comprises of several modern moves such as the aerial blunts, space godzilas and the loops. The best time to make it to the whitewaters is from early spring to the season of fall. The mid summer is counted as a superb season as well.
From the perspective of a rafter, the Minho River is not that difficult for rafting, however, at times it forms curlers, high waves and monster reversals. The difficult areas in the river differ according to the diverse water levels and thus, the strong rapids appear when the volume of water is at its peak. However, as you meet the rising waves and cut through them, you can sense the adrenalin rushing in through your body!
