The brilliant whitewaters of the Magpie River originate in the Labrador Plateau and flow through the pristine pine forests and diversely colored moss of the Cote-Nord region of Quebec and drain off into the north shore of the St. Lawrence River.
The granite canyons, through which the river flows, embody thrilling Class III-IV+ rapids. The captivating solitudes of the Magpie River contain untouched lakes covered with layers of glacial ice and excellent landscapes of grand gorges. Navigating through the rapids gets tougher day by day. Some areas of the valley, like the Magpie Canyon, require portaging and equipments are flown around. The spectacular Magpie Falls is an important highlight of the trip. The waterfalls drop more than 80 feet in an amazing array of colors and sounds.
Wondrous pine forests are laden with osprey nests and animals like moose and bear appear frequently. Night camps are an important activity in the valley and the pulsating lights of aurora borealis envelop the forests providing an astral ambience.
