White Water Rafting Rivers of the World - New York USA

Rafting the Hudson River, New York

The Outside magazine voted the Hudson River among the Top Ten whitewater rafting spots in the US. The headwaters of this splendid river emerge from the Adirondacks and provide a world class rafting trail splattered with numerous Class III-IV rapids. The two popular trails of the river are the Upper Hudson River Gorge and the Middle Gorge.

The adventure starts from a section of the Indian River, 3.5 miles above its convergence with Hudson. This section is bridled with Class III rapids to stimulate the energies. The next 14 miles on the Hudson pose a challenge to adventurers with Class III-IV rapids like Blue Ledges, Mile Long, Harris Rift, Little Nasty and Gooleys Steps. High water levels owing to snowmelts enhance the action in spring. Rapids like Givneys’ Rift, the Narrows and Greyhound Bus Stopper move over the hierarchy and offer Class V action. Thunderous barrels of water along 500-foot granite cliffs double the living-on-the-edge experience.

Summertime features dam regulated water flows, crafting a fun-filled ambience for families and beginners. Rapids in this season range from Class III-IV. A swim in the warm waters under a pleasant sunshine can offer a wonderful relaxing experience.

Fall in the Hudson Canyon ushers in a medley of charismatic hues with its lush foliage. The waterfalls and the granite walls form a heavenly abode. Bald eagles and blue herons throng the valley in large numbers.
